Solana (SOL) Exchange

Solana is a single-chain network built for speed: blocks are produced in fractions of a second, and a transfer usually costs a fraction of a cent. That combination is why stablecoins and swaps moved to it in volume — sending USDC or USDT over Solana feels closer to a card payment than to a blockchain transfer.

The coin itself, SOL, pays those fees and is staked by validators that keep the network running. Unlike Ethereum, Solana has no separate layer-2 ecosystem: everything happens on the same chain, so there is one address format and one set of fees to think about.

The trade-off is operational. A chain this fast is harder to keep up, and Solana has had outages where blocks stopped for hours — funds were never lost, but transfers waited. Check that a swap has confirmed before assuming it failed, and keep an eye on the network status when a transfer takes unusually long.

Fees deserve one more line, because they work differently here. There is a base fee per signature plus an optional priority fee, and when the chain is busy it is the priority fee that decides whether a transfer lands in the next block or waits. Wallets set it for you, but it explains why the same transfer sometimes costs a hundredth of a cent and sometimes a few cents.

For a swap the practical points are these. SOL addresses are base58 strings with no prefix, and the same string is used for the coin and for tokens on the chain — so USDC on Solana goes to the same address as SOL itself, which is convenient and also easy to confuse with a different chain's address. Confirmation is a matter of seconds, so if a payout has not arrived within a minute, the delay is on the exchange side rather than in the network.
